What are the main advantages of LED sports field lighting over conventional lighting?
LED sports field lighting gives more light for less energy, lasts much longer and needs considerably less maintenance than conventional luminaires. In practice, sports clubs save 50–70% on energy, depending on the old installation and how it is used. LED also offers better light quality (uniformity, colour rendering), and the installation can often be dimmed or switched to scenes for training, matches or events.
Does your lighting meet the NOC*NSF and NEN-EN 12193 standards?
Yes. When we design a lighting installation, we follow the NOC*NSF guidelines and the European standard EN 12193 for sports lighting. That way the pitch falls into the right lighting class (for example training only, regional competition or national and top-level competition), and illuminance (lux), uniformity, glare and colour rendering stay within the required limits.
Which sports and facilities does OVI Group light?

Roughly how much can we save by switching to LED sports field lighting?
The exact saving depends on the current system, the burning hours and energy prices, but in many cases:
- energy use: up to 50–70% fewer kWh
- maintenance costs: much lower thanks to the long life of LED and fewer lamp replacements
- total operating costs: considerably lower over the life of the installation
In a lighting plan with a savings calculation, we set out the expected energy savings, maintenance costs and payback period clearly.
Is our sports club eligible for a BOSA subsidy on LED sports field lighting?
Many Dutch amateur sports clubs can receive a subsidy on investments in LED lighting and sustainability through the BOSA scheme (Stimulering bouw en onderhoud sportaccommodaties).
Under the 2024–2028 scheme, typically:
- 20% subsidy is granted on construction, maintenance and the purchase of sports equipment;
- and an additional subsidy (up to approx. 30% in total) on sustainability measures, including energy-efficient LED sports lighting.
The exact percentages and budgets change every year. We help clubs assess whether they are eligible and can help gather the information needed for the application. For the latest conditions, we always refer to the official BOSA information from RVO and DUS-I.
